It Just Slipped My Mind

The thought, the word, just flitted off, was lost.
In frustration, I try vainly to retrieve.
Are these particular words worth the cost?
Spend time? Could others serve as well? Why grieve?

Can we blame it on each passing year,
making the desired word remote, elusive?
Just when it's time to make an item clear,
Forgetfulness makes itself intrusive.

When the chance of bringing back the word is slim,
Relax ,some other word may mean the same,
substitute a familiar synonym.
Nice if that could work, too, with a name.
