February Fooling Us
So, winter’s winding down; we watch for signs.
Sun’s rays warm the inside of the car.
Days a little longer, exchanged valentines,
Seed catalogs comprise our repertoire.
We begin to watch for robins, budding tree,
For spring, become as merry as a clown.
Anticipation trumps reality
As we imagine winter winding down.
The temperatures have dropped to record lows,
And heating fuel is gobbled in our town.
The warm-up forecast includes heavy snows,
It’s remotely we see winter winding down.
We’ll sit here by the fire with our valentine
And think how we don’t have to mow the lawn.
Until spring’s sun decides on us to shine,
We won’t care if winter’s hanging on.
