Lift or Drag
In later life, the ball and chain
Can seem such scary things,
Especially for guys and gals
Averse to clipping wings.
Companionship can be a draw,
Attractive person too,
Though holding back be equal
To wanting what is new.
The comfort of a loving arm,
A smile so special too
May break down the resistance,
Seeing ‘we’ in ‘me and you’.
Whether feet are cold or dragging,
Holding each one back,
Sometimes love provides the wings
To overcome the lack.
Though rare, it well may happen;
One can receive the gift
Of love in later life if ‘drag’
Is outstripped by the ‘lift’.
