How Do I Empathize With Thee
Compassion shows
In many ways,
Besides a rose
On dreary days.
The clowning jest,
The shoulder nudge,
Sometimes, what’s best:
Refuse to judge.
To just be there,
Instructions too,
Though nice if rare.
Opposed? What’s new?
Supply a need
Timely repair,
Give special heed
And interests share.
A challenge thrown out
To heighten drive,
Divert from pout,
Urge grit alive.
To be received
Requires trust,
Intentions kind,
Believe a must.
With open eyes,
On trying days,
Cherish compassion’s
Many ways.
