An Angel in the Shadows
Sometimes an angel comes into view,
When small hopes have departed and left empty space.
And you just walk on, wryly thinking, "What's new?"
What a blessing, a kind angel's face.
When you set your jaw, resolved not to feel,
You've torched a small dream; your heart will not move,
And you just hunker down, face what passes for real,
He suggests gently and doesn't reprove.
You've passed on the beauty to put sorrow behind
Tried to think, "Small thing; no one should care;"
Hardened your heart in resolving your mind,
Then the touch of an angel is there.
To restore and make better, the way things are viewed,
He sends an angel, and something of life is renewed.
