Unexpected Mirror
I looked at those around me,
Thought to see them clearer,
It began to astound me;
What I saw was a mirror.
The self-based, fear-based attitude
That made them miss the goal,
Seen with reluctant gratitude,
Was found, too, in my soul.
The bent to criticism
I hold in such disfavor,
Disguised in witticism,
My speech was found to flavor.
I look at those around me;
I find life a whole lot clearer.
As teachers they astound me,
Like looking in a mirror.
There’s a Teacher who’s far greater,
Taking what comes to light,
The loving, kind Creator,
Bringing love and growth, new sight.
